What are the advantages and disadvantages of distance learning (online classes)?
Viewpoint 1
Overcoming negative attitudes of employers is a concern for students considering online courses. Some employers judge online courses negatively when making hiring decisions. Some issues they may have surround the potential lack of collaboration in such an educational setting.
Viewpoint 2
There is a potential for academic dishonesty, and better methods for controlling this should be developed.

I think the reality is that in today's society, with today's resources, ANY student so desiring could EASILY find ways to commit academic dishonesties. It is hard for me to see this as a valid criticism. If instructors are so fearful of this, perhaps it is time to devise alternative methods of instruction and alternative types of assignments. Oh, that might require one to rethink how they operate, and well, it might be work. Is the fear of technologically offered courses really a fear of learning new ways of instructing students? |
