RSS and RSS Reader Definition
"RDF Site Summary", "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary"
Wikipedia defines RSS as a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, or podcasts. RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader", "feed reader" or an "aggregator". The user subscribes to a feed using this software. Once subscribed, the software allows the user to periodically check the feeds for new content, downloading any updates that it finds. For a primer on how to subscribe to RSS feeds in general and podcasts in particular, see our Podcasting how-to.
RSS Reader Example
Below is an exmple of an RSS aggregator. It is a Google Gadget that aggregates four RSS feeds into a tabbed user interface. The aggregated feeds are concerned with technological issues in education. This reader can be embedded in most any web site. More information on this gadget can be found here: here. To find more information about additional RSS readers or RSS technology, hop over to Google.com and search for RSS or RSS Reader!
